Casino Dress Codes: How to Dress for a Night of Gambling

Casinos nowadays are often associated with glitz and glamour. Especially when we think about the big resorts in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Macau, or Monaco. A lot of people believe that dressing up for the casino entails a suit or a gown. And while that is certainly an option, it is not your only choice when getting ready for a night of gambling.

Casino fashion has changed significantly in the 21st century. Dress codes have become a lot more relaxed and inclusive. So, in this article, we’d like to take a look at how one should dress when preparing for a night of gambling. We’ll offer suggestions for outfits, styles, and hopefully inspire you to look fly the next time you want to play a round of poker.

Pajamas

This first entry may shock and surprise some. After all, you can’t go into a casino with your pajamas can you? Well, the internet has made it possible for any fan of gambling to do just that. Online casinos are a relatively new phenomenon, which gained mainstream appeal in the late 2010s. Since then, online casinos have been steadily growing in popularity and offering online blackjack, and attracting a lot more fans.

The best part about these sites is that they bring an authentic casino experience right to your home. And, since you are not obligated to leave your house to play at these casinos, who says that you have to get dressed up? You can play poker in your PJs, enjoy slots in your sweats, and try baccarat from your bedroom. But, what if you want the authentic casino experience?

High Class Casino Style

Once upon a time, casinos were a pastime for the “high class.” Understandably, they had strict dress codes to delineate guests from staff, and to prevent anyone who does not meet their requirements from entering. For the most part, this sort of elitist outlook has been left behind in the past. However, some casinos still have a dress code, and some people still like the idea of dressing up for a night of gambling.

So, what would a high-class casino outfit look like? Well, for men that would be a three-piece suit, of whichever color you prefer. Men tend to avoid accessories, but things like rings, watches, and even bracelets or necklaces would make a fine addition to this ensemble. If you aren’t much of a three-piece suit fan, then pairing fancier dress pants with a high-quality jacket and button-up shirt is always a great option.

For the ladies, the best choice would be a fancy dress. Accessorize with a purse and jewelry, and pair some fine shoes that you’ve been saving for a special occasion. If you aren’t the dress-type, then there are plenty of fine suits tailored for women. In putting these on you can both feel good and look good.

Though it can be fun, high-class, elitist casino dress codes have largely gone out of style. As we said, most casinos still do have dress codes, but they are a lot more inclusive, so as to attract a bigger customer base. So, if you are not into the high-class, super expensive fancy stylings, then what could you wear to the local casino?

Casual Dress for Poker Night

Comfort is the name of the game here. You want something that looks good, but also makes you feel good. A lot of people may like to avoid simple T-shirts, but with just a bit of fashion planning, you can pull off a pretty awesome T-shirt combo. Just pairing a T-shirt with some cool jeans and a matching jacket would go a long way.

However, if you want to avoid jean fabric, then you can always put on something different. Linen trousers, cargo pants, or even chinos could be made to look wonderfully chic, with just a bit of effort. And if T-shirts are something you want to avoid, then casual button-ups with cool designs are probably your best bet.

Much of the same rules apply to women as well. Female jeans often are designed to look better than men’s, and if you match them with a comfy top that you just love, all the better. If jeans aren’t your thing, maybe you’ll find khakis a lot more your speed? Pair beige khakis with a white top, and finish the fit off with a jacket.

If you want to go a bit more feminine, maybe a cute dress or a nice, comfortable skirt would be something you enjoy, or maybe check out some unique fashion trends that are getting attention recently. Match the skirts with your shirts or blouses, and if it’s a bit chilly, pick out the perfect jacket for the occasion.

Accessorizing

We briefly touch on accessories before in this article, but we did not delve too deep into the concept. In this final section, we’d like to focus on what accessories you should bring to the casino. The important thing to note is that you do not want to go overboard. There are two major reasons for this.

  • The Crowds: casinos can often be crowded, and in that crowd if you lose a valuable piece of jewelry, it is highly unlikely that you will ever get it back.
  • The Free Drinks: many casinos come with free drinks, and quite a lot of people take advantage of that fact. While it can be fun, it also may cause unwittingly losing some valuable jewelry that you hold dear.

But, this doesn’t mean that accessorizing is not a good thing. For men, the ideal casino accessories would be a watch on one hand and a ring on the other. Something simple, to complete the outfit, without overpowering it.

For the ladies, earrings are always a good choice, and rings are not a bad idea either. Necklaces are optional, however, we’d recommend avoiding any heavy pieces, and instead sticking to small and light necklaces, that won’t draw attention or overpower the outfit.

If you wear glasses, you could do something cool with them as well. Maybe match the outfit to your glasses, in order to create the image of a suave, intellectual who has had years of experience playing the popular casino games.
