When we first shared our new playroom I showed you this picture of what you see when you walk in. The frame was a project I had not finished and it stayed like that for a little longer than I like but the other weekend we finally finished it up.
I had wanted a large magnetic chalkboard here and because I couldn’t find one to buy {Ikea do make a super cute one, but it isn’t available in WA yet} we decided to make one.
I found a large frame at the Reject Shop for $20 and we removed the glass.
My hubby then got a piece of colorbond steel cut to fit the frame which would act as the magnetic board. For a frame this size you’re looking at about $15 worth of steel.
We spray painted it with chalkboard spray paint. We chose the spray paint option as we knew we’d get a really nice smooth finish. 3 coats and you’re good to go.
And now it’s all ready to go!

The kids love it already. We will also use it for some magnetic play – with shapes and letters and numbers. They can enjoy it either sitting or standing which was important to me.
And I love that it is magnetic and that I can pop little notes on here now and then {using cute polkadot magnet pegs from Typo}
 Right now I also have Noah’s reward chart up here, it is a great location for it. I may decide to create something else for the room to house the reward chart and maybe a calendar too, but for now it’s working ok. I thought it would be in the way, but the kids really only use the bottom 3/4th’s of the magnetic chalkboard.
