This slime is super fun and VERY easy to make, and only needs 2 ingredients {or 3, if you colour it with food colouring like we did!} It’s borax free and completely non toxic so you don’t have to worry about kids consuming glue or borax like many other slimes contain! It’s also perfect for small babies and toddlers to play with.
It is completely edible since it is made with pysillium husk {available from most supermarkets and health food stores}.
I bought our packet of psyllium for about $5. If you can find a really fine psyllium powder that would work better, but our coarse powder worked too. The second time I made slime for the kids to play with I did blitz it in the thermomix to get a finer powder and found this to produce a better end consistency but it’s not essential. You only use 1 Tablespoon of psyllium per batch of slime, so it will last a while!
Psyllium husk is fibre supplement and is safe to consume so if your kiddo {or your visiting younger brother as was the case ’round these parts!} eats some, no worries. Just don’t let them eat heaps of it!
Store in an airtight container for playing with later! This slime doesn’t keep forever and ours did go mouldy after a week but if kept in the fridge it will keep much longer, just check it each time you give it to the kids and chuck it when it needs to go.
To make:
1 Tablespoon of psyllium powder
1 cup of water
a drop of food colouring {some colours we tried did come off onto the kids hands so don’t use too much!}
1. Put all ingredients into a saucepan {I used a non stick one, I am not sure how well this would work in a pot that isn’t non stick}
2. Place on the stove on medium heat and stir with a wooden spoon until it starts to bubble and congeal together. Keep stirring until it’s stretchy when you lift the spoon out as in the photo below.
3. Allow to cool, it’s super hot so not good for playing with just yet! I just allow to cool in a bowl.
Once cool, your slime is ready!!
It’s not super stretchy slime like those slimes made with glue or borax, but it’s still slimy in texture and nice and cold when it’s come out of the fridge! My kids just love to squish it through their fingers and poke it. It can get a bit messy but that is all part of the fun! Give it a go outside since the weather is warming up!
My littlest one {who just turned ONE!} really loved this sensory activity! And I felt safe and confident in letting him play with it. Even though he would be supervised regardless, at least this slime didn’t contain any borax or glue and is completely non toxic and edible. Super safe sensory slimey fun!

Brilliant recipe and so easy but mine is coming apart when pulled … did I perhaps not cook it for long enough? do you think I could reheat it or start again. It stays together as a whole but falls apart when pulled
Hi Belinda,
Unfortunately this slime recipe doesn’t make a stretchy slime, I believe you need the glue / borax recipes for that 🙂
[…] this? This was so much fun even for me! Thank you, A Little Delightful, for the recipe to make this psyllium […]
Oh so glad you enjoyed the slime! 🙂
OMGoodness this recipe is amazing! So easy and so much fun! BTW I didn’t have a “non-stick” pot so I used a stainless steel one and it works beautifully 🙂
Thanks again for this great recipe!
Oh so glad it worked even in a stainless steel pot Danie! It’s a great fun recipe 🙂
