Hello friends!
I have been wanting to share this with you for a while but we have been so busy with so much other stuff both day to day and on the blog that it’s taken a while to get written.
I am really excited about sharing this review with you. We are loving this high chair!
We have been through 2 high chairs already with Chloe {19 months old}. The first being one of those huge, ultra padded impossible to clean ones.
The second was an Ikea Antilop high chair. So easy to clean! But my little Ms Independent wanted to be able to climb into her chair by herself like her big brother does. She really disliked me putting her in it, and would often end up so upset about me lifting her into the chair that she wouldn’t eat. And when you did get her into the chair, she would keep standing up in it, no matter how tight we made the lap seat belt. Heart attack central!!
So we needed a new chair – one that satisfied Ms Chloe and also me! We were going to be very picky about which chair we ended up with. After a lot of research we worked out the Stokke Tripp Trapp would be perfect for us. But as a stand alone chair it was already a little out of our price range – add the accessories in and it blows the budget. We were so happy when we found the Mocka Soho Wooden Highchair.
This highchair ticks all of our boxes when it comes to a chair for our Chloe.
- It is sturdy in design, so I feel she is safe when she is on this chair.
- It is easy to clean, just a quick wipe. It comes with free cushions for the seat base and the back rest of the chair but we are not currently using them – Chloe is the messiest eater I know.
- She is able to climb up into it herself {when the safety rail on the front is not installed}. It is also easy for her to get down on her own.
- It keeps her at an optimal height for meal times and other activities at the dining table.
- The seat base and foot rest are both adjustable and will last her until she is 6 years old or more, ensuring she will always be at the right height while seated at the table. She is currently on the very highest level for the seat base so there is plenty of room for growing.
- It looks great, we have it in white to match our other dining chairs.
- A shoulder and waist harness is available as an accessory and this is useful for when I would like Chloe to be strapped in {think messy spaghetti and a child that bolts from the dining table in 2.4 seconds. Ha. This keeps her there so we can clean her up first!}
- The quality is great, the paint finish is fantastic – it is a white chair and we have been using it for nearly 2 months and it still looks like new after a wipe down.
Here is the chair with the seat and back rest cushions {they come included in the price of the chair} and with the safety bar attached. The harness is also visible here and useable when the cushions are on the chair. The chair also comes with a strap as seen in the first photo at the top of the post.
This is the back of the chair with the cushions and harness attached. It is a sturdy chair, and not easy to tip. Chloe pushes herself away from the table to get down with no problems.
The cushions attach with strong velcro to keep them in place. They are super easy to remove for washing!
This is Chloe all strapped in and with the front safety bar. Lots of room! I would love to keep her in the chair like this – but as I said earlier in the post, she likes to climb in and out herself otherwise we have unpleasant meal times! Lucky for us she usually sits still until she’s had enough, so the bar isn’t hugely necessary for her at this stage but would be required if she was a younger child to keep her safe and secure.
This is how we use our Mocka Soho – no cushions or front safety bar. But we keep the harness here so we can use it when needed. The safety bar is not a snap in and out accessory – the chair needs to be partly unscrewed for it to be installed. {the same applies for when you want to adjust the seat base or foot rest.} It doesn’t take very long to install or remove, but it’s not something you would want to do everyday.
Easy peasy for her to climb into.
Because it is adjustable, I can make sure Chloe is always sitting at the right height for her at the table. She is also sitting right up close to the table, which I love. Her Antilop kept her at quite a distance. I found that even with the safety bar installed on the Soho, she was still sitting pretty close.
I am really so very happy with this chair. It is everything we needed in a chair and also has all the things we wanted, at such an affordable price. We are buying another one shortly for Noah – as he is on a normal dining chair and it’s just not high enough for him. He is nearly 5, but I feel this chair will last him quite a while still.

dislosure: Mocka Australia supplied me with the Mocka Soho Highchair. I was not paid for this review and all opinions stated are my own.
Awesome. I have been checking these out for a little while now. We too love the Tripp Trapp but with twins its most definately out of our price range. I think these may be the go. Thanks again Bianca!
I have been thinking about ordering one of these for my 4 year old. Now I also want one for my 20 month old.
I think they are a great chair for both of those ages Jordian! My 19 month old loves hers and my just turned 5 year old can’t wait to get his! :o}
We have splashed out on Tripp trapps for all 4 of our children and will do when no 5 due June turns around 9 months old. I justify it by saying they have it as their own chair for life. When ds aged 7 is big enough for a grown up dining chair he will be able to take his trip trapp to his room for personal/desk. These look like a good quality v close imitation so easy to see why you like it. Nb the photo of yr daughter looks like her footrest is a bit low IMHO…..
Thank you! :o} Her footrest needs to be that low so she can climb up it 🙂 she doesn’t mind that her feet aren’t resting on it while she sits at the moment and is soon to need her seat lowered down 1 rung anyway 🙂
Yes the Tripp Trapps look great and last forever I have heard, the website for these Mocka Soho’s say these will last til the child is 6, but the seat holds 60 kgs and I’m sure my kiddos will be able to use theirs past the age of 6 🙂
Thanks for the great review and photos of it in use. I read this review when you first posted it and seeked it out again today as I’m looking for a new seat for my 2 year old at the table. We were thinking of a booster seat but a decent one is the same price as these chairs and these chairs will last so much longer! One question tho – is there any chance they can get the promo code to work on their NZ website? Thanks 🙂
Nevermind about the code – I just ordered it anyway 🙂
Sorry I missed your message Joanne! Yes I looked into booster seats too and tried a few out but my daughter couldn’t climb up them as there wasn’t anything for her to lift herself up with and due to the design of our dining chairs they won’t sit properly on them. I know you’ll love it, let me know how you go!!
Thanks for the great review! We were given another cheap copy of the tripp trapp which was very flimsy and the seat/footrest kept falling out, my husband screwed them in and they still fell out, so after the second time my son fell off his with a few tears I decided that it really belonged in council pick up. I was searching for a new one and found the Soho, it looks so good, but looks can be deceiving! I googled for a review and found yours- thanks for all the great pics! Just in time to use the promo code, I just ordered one 🙂 Looking forward to when its delivered!
This is MUCH later than when you did your review and I wish I had seen it sooner! I bought this highchair second hand 6 months ago and they didnt know what brand it was. I have been searching and searching for the answer and finally I saw this tonight! Now I finally know how to take the front guard off and my little man can sit comfortably at the table instead of being far away from it! Cannot wait to show him when he wakes in the morning! So thank you for the detailed review so I could FINALLY use my highchair to its full capabilities!
Hi Bianca,
Thanks so much for the great review. I’ve been eyeing off the trip trap and am so excited that I can now afford something that looks to be just as good quality.
One question: how valuable is a tray for a little one – 6 months and up, who is learning to eat and throwing food around? Does having a tray that surrounds the baby on the sides make life any less messy for us mums.
I’m due in a few months and I’m not sure which to choose – the Soho or the Mocka.
Cheers, Helen
Hi Helen!
We went from an all in one high chair with a tray to the Soho at the table and I didn’t find it any messier to clean because we didn’t have a tray. If anything because I was cleaning the table anyway after meals it was one less thing to clean. I think the tray is just designed to be a table top for bubs in a high chair but if they’re in a chair that can sit at table top height like the Soho then I don’t htink you need one 🙂
Hope that helps! 🙂
Hi thanks for the review. I have been searching for something to upgrade my 27mo. currently in a polly chicco highchair but she wants to sit in a normal dining chair now. like you I looked into boosters etc but think this style chair would be great.
One question….how do you find your daughter goes sitting close to the table with her legs under with the large lip that your dining table has?? Our table is almost identical and I wondered if her thighs would fit beneth it and she still be at a good height to eat/interact and table height.
Thanks xx
