Company A, 23rd Georgia Regiment, Volunteer Infantry
The Chitwood Brothers - Bartow County Yankee Killers
Daniel, John and Pleasant were from Gordon  County Georgia and all three enlisted as privates in Company A of the  23rd Georgia Infantry, "Bartow County Yankee Killers," August 31st,  1861. They are armed with large side knives and 1849 Colt pocket  revolvers. Their shirts are "checked cottonade." Daniel was captured at  Chancellorsville, exchanged, and returned to his unit. Daniel died in  Georgia on May 13th, 1892. John was wounded at Sharpsburg, captured at  Chancellorsville, and exchanged. He died on June 30th, 1866 in Arkansas.  Pleasant died of severe dysentery while in Richmond, Virginia, October  30th, 1862.
