our new playroom

August 16th, 2011|Categories: A Little Delightful|Tags: , , , |19 Comments

Well it feels like it took us months to do this, and in reality it took over a month simply because I’m impatient and started before I ‘should’ have. After much discussion we decided to change the playroom from the open plan living area ‘games room’ we had to the smallest bedroom in the house. So I lugged everything out of that room and started moving things in, 2 days before we were to fly out to see family. Needless to say, I didn’t get very much done and lost inspiration very quickly! After returning […]

duck house

July 21st, 2011|Categories: A Little Delightful|Tags: |2 Comments

We have been having fun with this little ‘duck house’ lately.I bought these totally cute ducks from the very talented Cath of tumblemonkey handmade. You can find her on facebook. We made a little house using a plain box and used tissue paper for the grass and pond and then added a few little bits like seed pods, gum nuts, twigs and pebbles. Noah is loving it, the ducks have to have baths before bed and he sings the “5 little ducks went out one day” song.

colour me happy : how to dye pasta

July 14th, 2011|Categories: crafts|Tags: , , , , |28 Comments

Ever wanted to dye pasta for crafts and fun sensory activities for the kiddos??
I’ve always thought dying pasta would be difficult, or messy. I attempted to colour pasta once before – with paint. What a mess!!
But I now dye all sorts of different shapes of pasta this way and it’s seriously a game changer!

You will need:
Uncooked pasta
Food dye
zip lock bags
a tray
paper or baking paper
Place your pasta in a ziplock bag.
Put a small amount of vinegar in the bag, and then some drops of food dye – try to get the food dye on top of the […]

baby it’s cold outside

July 13th, 2011|Categories: A Little Delightful|Tags: , , |6 Comments

My son *needs* to go outside. He is 100% an outside loving kind of kid. Which is fantastic and of course I love that he loves being out there, despite the sand and dirt and sticks and other things that end up in the house. But lately we’ve had a few days of just rain and it has been super cold. Rain all day, rain all night. And that means he doesn’t get to go outside. You should have seen his face when I brought in a strip of astro-turf for him to play on. I […]

alphabet sunday

July 10th, 2011|Categories: crafts|Tags: , |8 Comments

Our Sunday’s lately have been “alphabet sundays”. We have been having fun with identifying letters of the alphabet and colouring or gluing or drawing on large letters printed on a4 sheets of paper. I found this great font called Tubular Hollow and it is what we have been using for these activities. I just print an uppercase and lowercase letter out and depending on the day and what kind of time we have we will colour in, or glue things to, the letters. But then we have also been going around the house collecting things that start […]

This game is one that my little guy LOVED.What’s great about it is it is fun for the kiddos, helps build memory power, is quick and can be ready at a few moments notice. I just went around the house and grabbed a few things that would fit on a tray. For Noah I choose about 6 things as I feel this is a good number for his age. Sometimes we do more, sometimes less if I’ve picked a tricky combo! {like all yellow coloured items, etc}Just line them up on the tray and cover […]

to market to market

So remember our lovely little library courtesy of my brilliant husband?Well, we have another use for his fabulous creation. A supermarket. We gave our little girl a heap of felt food for her 1st birthday. She LOVES it, especially the tomato which happens to be one of her favourite foods. {These are the IKEA felt food sets}She can’t quite reach the top shelf {but I can’t either at my local supermarket!} :o}Lucky for her Noah is kind enough to take stuff down for her!I hope you have a lovely week ahead. I hope to be back to […]

go with it

April 30th, 2011|Categories: crafts|Tags: , |3 Comments

As much as I loved the planned crafts, sometimes you just have to set your child up with a bunch of ‘stuff’ and just go with what they want to do. Sometimes you might even just leave them to it, and supervise from arms length. Noah loves the crafts we do. But he also really loves doing his own thing and I find this is of course when he is his most creative. Sure, it’s messy. Sure, you might not ‘get’ anything out of it (sometimes, he just wants to cut paper into tiny pieces) but […]

rolling fun

September 24th, 2010|Categories: A Little Delightful|Tags: , |0 Comments

Well I’ve not been posting lately as we’re still ‘getting better’ over here.My little guy didn’t respond well to his first lot of antibiotics so required a blood test and x-ray. Please let us not have to do that again! It was a little heartbreaking to see him have a blood test. The tests confirmed pneumonia, and thus it is highly likely that our little baby girl was suffering from the same, but as she responded to the antibiotics and a small dose of steroids for her lungs she didn’t require anything further. They are both […]
