the chewiest, yummiest chocolate chip cookies

August 21st, 2014|Categories: baking, recipes|Tags: , , |1 Comment

There’s something about chocolate chip cookies that remind me of rainy afternoons. With a glass of milk in hand and a plate of cookies, my 3 brothers and I would watch as the rain drops fell into the blue of the pool while the thunder rolled in the distance.
Back then, our chocolate chip cookies were courtesy of Betty Crocker. These days, they’re made from scratch and usually with the help of one or two little cuties.
I have been working on this recipe for a while – and now this is my ‘go to’ when I […]

{recipe} honey and blueberry muffins

March 19th, 2014|Categories: recipes|Tags: , |0 Comments

One of my favourite things is a nice warm blueberry muffin for breakfast {with butter!}I whipped these up a little while ago and they’ve been baked at our house every week since. They’re delicate and delicious and not overly sweet and contain no refined sugar {unless you use brown sugar with the oats on top, though we sometimes use coconut sugar and it’s just as yummy!}Since they’re not too sweet you really get to appreciate the flavour of the blueberries. I’ve called them muffins but I make them in our mini loaf tin.I usually make […]

They’re oreo pops without the stick :o} And they are SUPER easy and quick and way too yummy – make sure you don’t have them around too long or they might not last until the party or get together you’re making them for!! {although […]

Hi lovelies!I shared a photo of our Christmas popcorn on facebook the other day and a few of you asked for the recipe so I thought I’d pop it up here. It’s not really a recipe! It’s so so easy 🙂 Just pop some plain popcorn and then lay it out on a baking tray lined with baking paperThen melt some chocolate – you can do white chocolate like I did or any other kind – here I shared a salted dark chocolate and nut popcorn we like to make! And then before the chocolate sets, sprinkle […]

Winter Warming Pot Roast

May 7th, 2013|Categories: recipes|Tags: , , , , |35 Comments

I used to cook in a cast iron french oven pot all the time. It was over 35 years old, bright bright orange and oh so heavy. I loved cooking in it and loved that it was a little piece of my husbands history. It had belonged to his mum and she had lovingly used it for a long long time, and then she gave it to him. I used it often and loved it. Loved the feel of it, loved how it cooked. But it was starting to see better days and after another […]

October 15th, 2012|Categories: Additive free, recipes|Tags: |4 Comments

Hi everyone! After my post on organising our pantry some of you asked for our home made muesli recipe, so here it is! :o}Hubby likes it with weetbix or cornflakes. I put it over chia pudding. Chloe likes hers with almond milk and Noah likes it without any milk :o} No matter how different, we all like it! You can use just oats – but lately I have been using this 5 Grain Porridge Mix from Woolworths as it is quite yummy!Ingredients:2 TBS coconut butter/oil1 TBS maple syrup2 TBS raw honey1 TBS linseed 150g raw nuts of […]

{recipe} baked sourdough egg boats with pancetta

September 11th, 2012|Categories: recipes|Tags: , |5 Comments

We made these for Father’s day breakfast the other weekend and they are seriously good and seriously easy! The kids helped me chop spring onions and hollow out the bread rolls and whisk up the eggs and pour the cream. They love helping out in the kitchen and although it makes a little more mess, it is a lot more fun :o}Yummy crusty sourdough bread rolls {or you could use a longer baguette and cut it up to serve} – hollowed out a little and then filled with a creamy egg, cheese and spring […]

{recipe} beef and vegetable ragu with pasta

July 27th, 2012|Categories: recipes|Tags: |10 Comments

One of my kiddos’ favourite meals is this slow cooked beef and vegetable ragu with penne – it is my variation of a Curtin Stone for Coles recipe from last year sometime – I thought I would share it with you since so many asked when I posted about it on facebook a while back! I have been cooking it for a year, more often in winter, and it has changed a lot from the original as I’ve adjusted it to suit us, and of course added more vegetables. I usually don’t follow a recipe {except […]

{recipe} home made healthy ‘milo’

July 3rd, 2012|Categories: Additive free, recipes|Tags: , |36 Comments

Thank you for all your lovely comments on my post about feeding my kiddos. I am sorry I haven’t responded to them yet and yes, I have seen the not so nice comments that a couple of people left. It is what it is and we eat this way as a choice we make – everyone has the right to choose their own path and I am not trying to preach or make anyone feel guilty. I hope that it didn’t come across like that! Here is the home made ‘milo’ recipe as promised to […]
