colour me happy :: how to dye chickpeas

October 1st, 2014|Categories: A Little Delightful, crafts|Tags: , , , , , , , , |2 Comments

Recently I dyed some chick peas for the kids for a little bit of fun imaginative and sensory play.
They’re such a great size and very different to the texture of our rainbow rice!
It’s easier than you may think to dye pasta and rice, and the result is fun and vibrant and irresistible!

You will need:
Dried chickpeas {you can get these from the supermarket or a bulk foods grocer will have them cheaper – if you are in Perth Kakulas in Northbridge is a great spot for things like this!}
Food dye {I use a gel paste […]

after school wind down time and my exhausted kindy kid

March 16th, 2014|Categories: Uncategorized|Tags: , , , , , , , , |5 Comments

Anyone else have an exhausted kindy kid?We have finished week 6 of school and although so many people I know have kindy kids that have finally adjusted to being at school, my kindy kid is still not used to it and is absolutely exhausted by the end of her Kindy day.I am lucky that Chloe LOVES school. She gets ready for school in 10 seconds flat and she happily says goodbye to me and has a really great day. I know I’m really lucky that she loves it.But some days, the minute we walk […]

{activity} DIY construction site and sensory tub

August 2nd, 2013|Categories: A Little Delightful|Tags: , , , |2 Comments

Over the school holidays we had some fun with our construction theme! Both my kids love anything trucks, diggers, tools and building so I just knew we could have a lot of fun with it. We started our activities by surprising the kids this ‘construction site’ when they woke up one morning!I laid out two activities for them to do and popped their hi-vis vests on the back of their chairs. Hubby brought in some orange cones from our outdoor playbox and thought he’d have some fun with some caution tape! A month or so ago we also […]

{activity} weather :: cloud fluff sensory tub

July 23rd, 2013|Categories: A Little Delightful|Tags: , , , , |1 Comment

My kids love sensory play and after making cloud dough we also made cloud fluff! Yes, maybe over-doing the ‘cloud’ activities {we also did rain clouds in a glass!} during our weather theme but with a cloud theme happening in the baby’s nursery as well I have clouds on my mind :o}This is seriously a fun sensation. I enjoyed it too. It’s hard to describe. You know what shaving cream would feel like on it’s own – already pretty fun for kids, but the cotton wool provides a little resistance and texture!It’s definitely messy […]

{activity} weather :: cloud dough sensory tub

July 22nd, 2013|Categories: A Little Delightful|Tags: , , , , , , |0 Comments

I have seen so many pins on pinterest of cloud dough sensory tubs so of course when we did our little weather theme we had to try it! It is AMAZING! It’s so soft and my kids are still enjoying it weeks later!You need just two ingredients – plain flour and baby oil {or vegetable oil}We used 8 cups of plain flour and 1 cup of baby oil. {I just bought the cheapest of both I could find at the supermarket} I ended up adding in more baby oil as I mixed it together to get […]

our playful week

June 24th, 2013|Categories: crafts|Tags: , , , , , , |4 Comments

Hi everyone!Whoops! My plan to have this as a weekly post certainly hasn’t worked has it!!? I can honestly not believe how the weeks are just flying by, with a little under 2 months before this baby arrives I am almost in panic mode. I have a lot of things on my ‘before baby to do list’ that I haven’t gotten to yet, plus a lot of obligations for the blog that I said yes to {some months and months ago} that I am still trying to get through. I know it’s been a bit […]

{sensory tub} :: dinosaurs

July 10th, 2012|Categories: A Little Delightful|Tags: , , |4 Comments

We have been doing sensory tubs for pretty much every ‘theme’ lately – they’re just so easy to do and you can tailor them to suit your kiddos age. We use an Ikea Trofast tub with a lid because I already had them, but it could be beneficial {if you’re buying a tub specifically} to get one with a lid that snaps closed.I made up two different tubs for the kiddos to play with, one indoor one and one outdoor one :o}Noah specifically asked to make a dinosaur world when we talked about what […]

{sensory tub} space

June 4th, 2012|Categories: A Little Delightful|Tags: , , |1 Comment

 I whipped up a quick sensory tub for Chloe. And by quick I mean I just grabbed a whole lot of random stuff from around the house. I’ve seen some cooler ones, but it doesn’t need to be complicated.I put a very old metal space shuttle toy in here – this used to belong to one of my brothers and they gave it to Noah. I placed some bouncy balls {planets}, rocks {meteorites} and stars as well as a couple of glow sticks in here.The sun and moon were also drawn by one of my […]

{sensory tub} :: autumn fun

April 30th, 2012|Categories: A Little Delightful|Tags: , , |4 Comments

Well, apparently it’s autumn. But it certainly doesn’t feel like it now that we’re back in Perth. We have had a few days of 30 degree weather still though the last few days have been drizzly and a little cooler.It did feel like autumn in Sydney though! We had the best time on our little holiday and soaked up a lot of family {although it never feels like enough}. Here are some nice autumny photos in case you’re missing out on the autumn-ness too.{playing in the leaves at his great grandparents house}{beautiful tree lined driveway}{outside […]

Easter tub of fun

March 20th, 2012|Categories: A Little Delightful|Tags: , , , |0 Comments

An easy peasy Easter-y thing to make for your toddler :o}I made up this Easter tub for Chloe to enjoy.I took a small off cut of astro turf.And rounded up a bunch of unused Easter stuff from our Easter box to put in it. The kids have been loving these themed tubs lately and they’re really easy to put together using things we already have around the house.Her favourite part is opening up the eggs and the carrot and placing the little chicks inside and trying to close them up. Great fine motor skill […]
