buildconfidenceThis post is brought to you by LEGO Juniors.

It’s no secret that we are big LEGO lovers in this house. I have posted here about our LEGO storage and LEGO sets are definitely high on my kids birthday or Christmas wish lists so I was absolutely thrilled to try out something from the new LEGO Juniors range.

I’ll be honest and tell you that when I first saw the LEGO Juniors sets in the stores I thought they were a different sized brick to the classic LEGO and LEGO DUPLO, but after taking a closer look at the range, I found that the pieces are infact the same as classic LEGO, but that the sets are designed for younger builders aged 4-7. Traditionally there has not been a product to help bridge the gap between Duplo and the older LEGO themes like City and Star Wars and this is where LEGO Juniors comes to play.

lego1LEGO Juniors sets are easy to build, and the instructions are more straightforward for younger kiddos to follow. They’re designed to help your young builder achieve a feeling of satisfaction and feel confident in their ability to create with LEGO. The sets come with numbered pre-packed bags that can be built without help from Mum or Dad. Also, these bags are perfect for younger kids who might not want to sit and build the entire box set in one sitting! Open a bag, build what’s in it and you can instantly start to play with completed elements and save the other bags for later or even another day.

As I said, we’re LEGO lovers and so LEGO isn’t new to Chloe, but being a 4 year old she watches us build her sets and then plays with them afterwards. However when we sat down to put together this LEGO Juniors Princess Play Castle  set, I told her that this would be easy for her to build herself, and I wish you could have seen her eyes light up. She was really excited to give it a go and so I explained how we need to find all the pieces shown in the corner of each page of the instruction booklet, and then to follow the numbered steps.

lego-bag-1There’s something amazing about watching your child learn that they can do something all on their own and after each little accomplished element {the person first, then the little cat house etc} Chloe would say “I did it! I did it all by myself!” and she’d call in her dad or her big brother to show them her awesome work. It was really so lovely to watch, and she did really well all on her own! I was there of course, and she made me chief flower-putter-oner {I think those are still a teeny bit small for her little fingers} but that is a big big change from being chief-make-the-whole-thing-and-here’s-your-finished-LEGO!!

lego10After the first bag was completed {and after a mini break, the cat needed some food!} we set out to build the castle itself.

Again, Chloe did the majority of this on her own which was so much fun for her!! The “quick build” elements like the castle walls being large pieces made for such a positive experience for her as they weren’t too fiddly or complicated.

She was really enjoying this new found building confidence and with each turn of the instruction booklet pages she built more and more of the castle without getting frustrated or upset.

And to reward her for her effort and hard work – ta da! The castle that Chloe built!lego13

The instruction booklet also came with some extra building ideas for the pieces which helps to expand and extend the play of this set at a later date which I liked. Chloe wasn’t into doing any of them though as she was so excited and proud of what she had built there was no way she was entertaining the idea of changing it up just yet!

I am impressed with the LEGO Juniors range and their ability to bridge LEGO DUPLO and traditional LEGO bricks and that the range is specifically designed to cater for younger builders, helping them with their feeling of accomplishment and in turn building their confidence with LEGO. We had so much fun checking out the rest of the Juniors range, full of lots of ‘real life’ scenarios that kids love like pony farms, police and fire stations, construction sites as well as some favourite movie character sets like Batman and Spiderman!
